A 2020 and 2018 Pushcart nominee, Vida Cross is a blues poet. Her work references her ancestry as a third generation Chicagoan, a Bronzeville resident, the artwork of Archibald J. Motley Jr., and Langston Hughes. Vida Cross' book of poetry Bronzeville at Night: 1949 debuted in 2017 (and was recognized by Elizabeth Alexander as the Cave Canem 2010 Poetry Book Honorable Mention). She is a Cave Canem Fellow Who Holds an MFA in Writing and an MFA in Filmmaking from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, an MA in English from Iowa State University and a BA from Knox College. Her work has appeared in several journals and anthologies including Through This Door: Wisconsin in Poems, Milwaukee Noir, Wising Up Anthology: Creativity and Constraint and Cave Canem Anthology XII.
