Fulbright Scholar Vida Cross is the author of the book Bronzeville at Night: 1949, and a Cave Canem Fellow. A 2020 and 2018 Pushcart Nominee, she has published work in a number of anthologies, journals, and magazines. Vida Cross’s work references her ancestry as a third-generation Chicagoan, her residence in Bronzeville, the artwork of Archibald J. Motley Jr., and the writing of Langston Hughes. Her poetry collection, Bronzeville at Night: 1949, debuted in 2017 and was recognized by Elizabeth Alexander as the 2010 Cave Canem Poetry Prize Honorable Mention. Cross holds an MFA in Writing and an MFA in Filmmaking from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, an MA in English from Iowa State University, and a BA from Knox College.
